  39. contest......

  41. the Intel version........

  44. At least it would just crash the whole program _BEFORE_ rendering
  45. anything..... ;^)
  46. For five days, I had nothing but a $10,000 bun warmer!

  48. I REALLY feel sorry for this friend of mine who bought into the whole
  49. 'buy a WORKSTATION, and we'll treat you like a king' 
  50. sales pitch being foisted by these ex-used car salesmen who call themselves
  51. vendors.

  53. This poor guy is a video producer.
  54. Frankly, he expected to get a complete system for the money he paid.

  56. (The bobo who configured the system didn't even set up his network with the
  57. most rudimentary of FTP utilities!!!!!)
  58. According to my client, this pinhead had him using ncftp on the Amiga to
  59. manually copy EACH AND EVERY frame rendered!!!

  61. I was able to give him a copy of WS_FTP for the Alpha, and it took him about
  62. two minutes to learn how to transfer large batches of files with just a few
  63. keyclicks.

  65. Now, you can blame this guy for not wanting to learn the fine point of the
  66. TCP/IP protocol, but I think that would be ignoring the fact that these
  67. vendors claim to offer superior service for the money they demand.

  69. Judging by the response I got this last weekend, they use the money to party
  70. in Vegas, and neglect to tell their answering service that they're going to
  71. be out of town.
  72. (The 'secretary' at the vendor I called said, 'Uh, he's out of the office
  73. right now.' Damm straight he was 'out of the office'! He was in Vegas,
  74. partying with my client's money, while I'm trying to clean up his mess!)

  80. I spent a few hours getting his network set up RIGHT, and now he's a happy
  81. camper!

  83. It's just too bad that this guy's expensive Deskstation Raptor 3 machine was
  84. not supported by the vendor......

  86. Oh, BTW, after contacting NewTek, DeskStation, and the vendor TWICE (Friday,
  87. and Monday), I STILL have as yet to even get a call back about the fact that
  88. this friend of mine NEVER GOT THE SOFTWARE HE PAID FOR!!!
